The STDers - STD Competitors
Tarquin has the most to lose as runner up in the 2004 championship. He loves the championships and worships John Howard who he sees as the sports biggest hero. Tarquin has kept his career a secret from everyone involved within the championship as he considers it will effect his persona and how other competitors view his memory methods of the codes. So confident that this method is the best key to success he is considering publishing these when he wins this year.Tarquin is favourite for this years event, On his gravestone it will read "Ultimate Knowledge, his aim his life"
Dave felt he was treated unfairly in the 2004 championship and has refused to enter in the 2005 championship (and he won in 2004) Rumour has it that he may be starting a breakaway association called STD Europe which will cover all European countries.
This could be a technical nightmare and the ultimate challenge for the competitor or should I say "Un rêve viennent vrai"
Mr Nice Guy, A born winner with his photographic memory but just the underdog to Tarquin, Bill could walk the championship but choses to let his best friend, Tarquin take the lead. Bill has a lot of good friends at the championships as he makes new ones easily. He would like a girlfriend and will be looking for one at the event. This is only Bill's second championships.
Paul is a very serious competitor. He does not drink in the evenings running up to the event. He met his wife at the championships and they both view the event as their anniversary. He wants to win because it is something he is good at. This is his fifth entry in the championships and he has never been placed lower than fifth in any event. Very competitive.
Brenda know as "Da" finishes any sentence that her husband Paul starts. Paul has had an affair with Judge Tracey Keir, which Brenda will not let him forget and also the fact she won in 2002, first and only female winner to date within the STD Championships. Maybe a female will win the 2005's.
Young attractive and dangerously smart. Has been taking part in the competitions for a few years, beginning as something to do to escape the boredom of a very unchallenging job. If she ever found a career she enjoyed would probably give up the sport but it keeps her mind busy when the boredom of her life drags at her bones. Fancies Bill but is not stupid enough to be obvious. She has never been in the top four
Mark is a complete shit. He needs to win to prove his superiority over everyone else in the world. His objectives are to win by playing mind games with the other competitors, think David Blaine meets Alan Partridge. Now a solicitor by trade, he has never lost in court so why should he lose today. Has never made the finals
Tall,dark and handsome. He can get any woman and pretty much does. He is a man everyone wants to be, but shallow in the fact that he only enters competitions like this to get laid. He also enters chess competitions to try to pull. He does it well and charmingly. He does not try too hard to learn anything and breezes through because people genuinely like him. He has never won and does not follow the winners unless he has good reason.
Northern and arrogant who seriously believes everyone around him is of subnormal intelligence. He enters the championships to prove that northern farmers are "as good" as southerners. Found out about the competition through his, now divorced wife. He is hard, solid and down to earth. Takes no shit however he is very well read and understands a lot more than he lets on. He is also despite his front, a very open man. If you can get through his hard exterior he is an intelligent and caring soul who misses his wife deeply, though would never let anyone know. Runner up in 2000
The first of the 96 upsetters when women were allowed to compete, and she duly won during the "Old Association" day which caused outrage. She was closely linked to Michael Warner but for some reason they split up and now refuse to talk. Everytime anything about the small scale of the competition seems to keep her annoyed as also the fact money is not being spent where it should be. She is standoffish although proud of her accomplishments within the scene.
Very upper class. Went to eton and Cambridge and was a member of the Eton STD club. Was a bit of a child celebratory and is very good friends with Dickie Ellis who knows about his giant killing ability when he was younger. Now drugs and parties have taken their toll and will only ever reach the finals where his nerves give out and he walks away with his tail between his legs. Very respected although viewed as a bit of a loser. One of the last of the great STD champions. A little like Stanley Matthews. Winner 2000

A friend of Tarquin and Bill. A bit like a car salesman. He has worked hard to make a foolproof way of getting through and winning with his accomplice in the audience. He actually views this not as cheating but the actual interpretations of the rules. Winner in 1999 & 2003
The child prodigy, highly gifted and maybe we could see a youngster winning in 2005.
